HRT and Supplements

Certain supplements may be recommended to support and enhance the results of your HRT program at Ontario Regenerative Medicine.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Supplements

Diindolylmethane (DIM)

DIM is a compound naturally found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, bok choy, and brussel sprouts. DIM is a metabolite of Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) and it improves the results of hormone treatments.

Benefits of DIM:

  • Improves estrogen metabolism.

  • Higher ratio of healthy estrogens lowers health risks (protects against early atherosclerosis and decreases long-term risk of certain cancers in men and women).

  • Provides powerful antioxidants.

  • Helps maintain levels of free testosterone.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble nutrient that plays a crucial role in building and maintaining healthy bones. Vitamin D is not found naturally in many foods other than fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, but is often added to fortify various milks and breakfast cereals. Known as the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D can also be produced  in your skin when exposed to UV rays from sunlight.

Vitamin D deficiency is an epidemic in North America, that really came to fruition after the coronavirus pandemic. The ideal levels are between 60-70 ng/mL - and many people are well below that threshold. The groups most at risk include: hospitalized patients, those living with obesity, the elderly, long-term care residents, those living at higher latitudes, and the dark-skinned population.

Symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency include muscle aches, bone pain, increased sensitivity to pain, muscle weakness, and muscle spasms or twitches.

The benefits of Vitamin D include the following:

  • Improves balance and muscle performance

  • Helps maintain muscle and bone

  • Helps prevent osteoporosis

  • Reduces depression

  • Reduces risk of cancer

  • Supports immune system

  • Vital for healthy hair and nails

  • Vital for healthy thyroid function
