Hormone therapy and venous thromboembolism among postmenopausal women: impact of the route of estrogen administration and progestogens: the ESTHER study
Objective: To investigate whether transdermal estrogen may be safer than Oral Estrogen regarding VTE risk.
Conclusions:
Oral estrogen = increased risk of VTE
Transdermal estrogen is NOT associated with an increased risk of VTE and is a safer option
NOTE: Pellet estrogen DOES NOT have an increased risk of VTE and is a safer option
