Often considered the “pregnancy hormone”, progesterone is a key hormone in menopausal, perimenopausal, and premenopausal women.  It is involved in many functions in the body, especially in the reproductive systems. In postmenopausal women, progesterone levels decrease because it is primarily produced in the ovaries. Progesterone levels can also potentially drop postpartum, which leads to postpartum depression.

Synthetic Progestin has a multitude of side effects. These are not experienced with the bioidentical progesterone provided to patients at Ontario Regenerative Medicine

Side effects of synthetic progestin include:

  • Changes in vaginal bleeding
  • Increased risk of breast cancer
  • Increased risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Cramping or pain
  • Breast tenderness
  • Nausea
  • Changes in mood (depression)
  • Fluid retention

Due to the molecular size of progesterone, it is not available in pellet form. Progesterone is administered by oral or transdermal means.  Oral intake at bedtime improves the quality of sleep.
