Ontario Regenerative Medicine operates out of the Northern Ontario Surgical Centre (NOSC), a fully accredited surgical facility that has been awarded accreditation by The Canadian Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (CAAASF) for meeting or exceeding the standards of a hospital. This accreditation also ensures that stringent standards are met in all operational aspects of the surgical facility, including qualification and certification of all medical staff. NOSC has also received Out Of Hospital Premises accreditation through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
The goal of the Canadian Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities and College of Physicians and Surgeons accreditation is to ensure the public’s safety. A CAAASF / CPSO accreditation indicates that a private facility either meets or exceeds the standards of a hospital in terms of patient safety and care. A CAAASF / CPSO accreditation ensures that your surgery is being performed in a safe environment specifically designed to meet your surgical needs.
Prior to 2010, no provincial organization had the authority to regulate out-of-hospital premises. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario worked in collaboration with the government of Ontario to develop the Out-of-Hospital Premises Inspection Program. Always an advocate for the highest level of patient safety, Dr. Scott Barr was an active member of the Out-of-Hospital Premises Standards Pilot Task Force.
With the support of the Ontario government, the College gained the authority to inspect out-of-hospital facilities. The CPSO has been conducting inspections of facilities in Ontario since the OHP program was initiated. This inspection is done on an annual basis and very stringent criteria must be met to pass this inspection. In addition to the annual inspection, there is an on-site inspection of the premises by CPSO physicians and nurses every 5 years.
The Northern Ontario Surgical Centre has consistently achieved successful assessment results during the accreditation inspection process, which was carried out most recently in 2022. This is a testament to the quality of care and attention to detail provided by all of the staff at our surgical center.
